This collection is aimed at flute students from the end of their first year up to the level of 4.-5. year students. The pieces can be used in class (pupil and teacher), in elementary ensemble playing, for students concerts and as enjoyful sight-reading exercises for more advanced students.
The primary aim of the collection is to contribute to the development of excellence in ensemble playing, to develop the skills of chamber music. Technically, the pieces are not very difficult. The challenge resides mainly in their rhythmic complexity (especially when playing together) and the demands put on interpretation.
This collection was commissioned by ten Icelandic music schools in some of which the pieces were tried by teachers and pupils. The Culture Fund of the City of Reykjavik provided a generous grant enabling the publication of this collection.
This book is dedicated to the Icelandic flutist Kolbeinn Bjarnason.
