Paraphrase über Liebesträume von F. Liszt

I was commissioned this piece by the great pianist France Clidat, victim of a cancer that disabled her left hand. Bravely facing this dramatic situation, France asked some of her friend composers to write for her a piece for the right hand. It was France who chose « Liebesträume » as the departure point for my composition. I started adapting the first 24 bars in « Dreams of love » to the performing possibilities of the right hand, transposing and easing the accompaniment of the melody in the lower octave. Then, following the path shaped by Liszt, the paraphrase on the central part starts. There, I adapt his ideas to my own language, and follow with a faithful, note by note transcription of his cadenza (bars 59-60), which instead of leading to the reprise goes straight to the coda, where it meets my own style again.
