The composer wrote her trio for the Haydn celebrations in Eisenstadt in 2009. Inspired by the information that Haydn had wanted the slow movement of his "Funeral Symphony" No. 44 for his funeral, Kats-Chernin, in order to connect with her illustrious predecessor, drew on Haydn's rich wealth of motifs and composed a free fantasia on them, with an extended sustained passage.
