Seven Last Words From The Cross

Seven Last Words from the Cross is an attempt to write a modern alternative to Stainer's masterpiece The Crucifixion. Like the Stainer it is scored for two soloists, choirand organ, has one unaccompanied movement, and includes hymns for everyone to sing.

The narrator’s part has not been given to a man but to that fascinating disciple, Mary Magdalene - Maryfrom Magdala.

The work is intended to be performed in Lent, Passiontide or Holy Week, but not exclusively. The first performance was actually in July and commemorated the feast of StMaryMagdalene.
